{"id":276,"date":"2010-06-17T01:41:51","date_gmt":"2010-06-16T22:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.held.org.il\/blog\/?p=276"},"modified":"2012-05-21T02:20:05","modified_gmt":"2012-05-20T23:20:05","slug":"surprising-new-keyboard-shortcuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.held.org.il\/blog\/2010\/06\/surprising-new-keyboard-shortcuts\/","title":{"rendered":"Surprising new keyboard shortcuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Well, surprising me, at least)<\/p>\n<p>It's been a while since I wrote these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.held.org.il\/blog\/?p=29\">two<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.held.org.il\/blog\/?p=72\">posts<\/a> about keyboard shortcut, so I'll try to summarize some neat ones I've recently learned:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unix Shell<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ctrl+U<\/strong> deletes all characters on the cursor's left. And.. keep it in the shell's clipboard.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ctrl+K <\/strong>deletes all characters to the cursor's right (including the cursor's position), keeps in clipboard.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ctrl+Y: <\/strong>paste clipboard.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ctrl+R:<\/strong> search for string in history. Multiple Ctrl+R's search for the next matches in history. Btw, It's F7\/F8 on windows command prompt.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Google vim keys and more<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google search<\/strong>: <a href=\"www.google.com\/experimental\">Google Experimental Search<\/a>, enables vim keys for browsing the results! Super useful.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Calendar <\/strong>support vim keys (j, k, l, m) for navigating in the calendar. Type \"?\" for more keyboard shortcuts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>GNOME<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alt+F10<\/strong> toggles between maximal window size and original window size.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alt+F9<\/strong> minimizes window<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alt+F8<\/strong> switches to resize window mode<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alt+F1<\/strong> opens the GNOME menu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks for Zohar and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/avivby\">Aviv<\/a> for presenting me with most of the above shortcuts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Well, surprising me, at least) It&#8217;s been a while since I wrote these two posts about keyboard shortcut, so I&#8217;ll try to summarize some neat ones I&#8217;ve recently learned: Unix Shell Ctrl+U deletes all characters on the cursor&#8217;s left.
